dedicatee of one of his poems. P. wites an an account of his tutor’s life and death. Grice:
“We English are lucky: there is only one philosopher from Ockham: Ockham. From
Girgenti, however, Italians have Empedocle and Pausania!” Grice: “Strawson
advised me that I should refer to Emepedocle as Girgenti and Pausania as
Girgentino, just for the sake of the difference!” -- Pausania.
